To Die / To Sleep / Perchance to Dream
2x triptychs of pigmented archival inkjet prints, 48” x 48" each panel, 2015-2016
TO DIE / TO SLEEP / PERCHANCE TO DREAM (day by day)
Each panel (of 3) is a collection of 1,225 ROW YOUR BOAT video-stills. The video-stills in each panel perform a particular gesture—to die, to sleep, or to dream (as referenced in the title). Each video-still was captured on a different day of 2010-2015. They are presented in chronological order, from top to bottom (like a film strip) and then left to right.
TO DIE / TO SLEEP / PERCHANCE TO DREAM (all at once)
Each panel (of 3) is a digital compilation of 1,225 ROW YOUR BOAT video-stills. The video-stills in each panel perform a particular gesture—to die, to sleep, or to dream (as referenced in the title). These video-stills, each captured on a different day of 2010-2015, are aggregated to create a cross-temporal depiction of their respective gestures.
This triptych series was part of a 2016 solo show entitled “I am Yorick,” which used Hamlet as an inspiration for a body of work that explored the nature of time and mortality.
